Owen’s Wish

What were you doing on April 29th this year?

April 29th was “World Wish Day” for Make-a-Wish, and on that day I was at a firefighter training facility in Newmarket photographing a 4-year-old boy’s wish coming true.

Owen’s wish was to be a firefighter for a day. He had to go through training before he was made an honorary firefighter.

Once his training was complete, Owen got a certificate and his very own, REAL (and very expensive!) firefighter’s helmet!

And it was just in time for his first big rescue! He also got to help destroy a car with the “jaws of life”!

Not ONLY was it World Wish Day, and Owen’s wish granting day (aka his “first day on the job” as a firefighter), but it was actually also Owen’s grandfather’s LAST day as a firefighter before he retired! All in all, a very busy and incredible day for little Owen!

Here’s Owen saying “thank you” after his fantastic day! (Email subscribers, you will have to read this post on the webpage to see the embeded video. Or click here.)

Below are some links to some of the media coverage that Owen’s wish received!

And finally, here is an email I received a few days after the event from Karen at Make-a-Wish…

Hi Jennifer,

I didn’t get a chance to say thank you before everyone left on Sunday but I really wanted to touch base with you and let you know just how much we appreciated you coming out and supporting Owen’s wish and helping us to capture those memories for him and his family. It was an amazing day one that I think Owen & family will always remember and I’m really glad you were able to be a part of it.

Again, thank you for all of your hard work and dedication to making this wish come true!

About a week ago, I got an underwater housing for my camera. Something always came up, and I didn’t get a chance to play with it! Yesterday I asked my son if he wanted to go swimming and against all odds he said NO. (I did a double-take… he *always* wants to go swimming usually!).

This afternoon I finally got to play! And since the lovely Sabrina and Mason are getting married on a lake (well, on a boat, on a lake), I knew I was going to photograph their wedding invitation around water. Floating on water – done. On the deck beside water – done. And as of this morning, UNDER water! I’m really happy how these turned out! (As I’m sure Sabrina can confirm, after reading my many excited text messages 😉 )

Photobomb Friday!

Since wedding season is upon us, here is one of my all-time favourite photobombs! Have a great weekend everyone!

Photobomb Friday!

Photobombs amuse me. Some are funnier than others, but still. I thought it would be fun to do a “Photobomb Friday”, where every Friday I would post a funny “photobombed” picture I’ve found online. These photos were NOT taken by me, they’re purely for the amusement purposes of my readers 🙂

For those of you who don’t know what a “photobomb” is, basically it’s when someone jumps into a photo at the last minute.

If you would like to submit a photobomb for next week, please comment below with the link, or email it to me!

Here is this week’s photobomb!

Yesterday I was down at the beaches in Toronto for Lisa and Rodney’s engagement session. As I’m sure those of you who live in this area know, it was a pretty rainy weekend. But it was kind of raining on and off, and I like the look of angry rain clouds so Lisa and I decided not to reschedule – and I am SO GLAD we made that decision!! I swear as I was driving down to meet them, the rain stopped, the clouds parted and this glorious blue sky showed up! And I still got these fantastic textured clouds too! I couldn’t believe my amazing luck!!!

And then it got even BETTER! I got Lisa and Rodney in front of my camera, and realized, Hey, these guys are incredible in front of a camera!! They were totally natural, fun, laid back, and best of all – so obviously in love!! (And it totally shows in the images, of course!)

I don’t usually use props, but the “Love” sign has a special meaning 😉 And for the record, the water was freezing cold yesterday, but Lisa and Rodney were total rockstars and braved it as best they could. See, wasn’t it worth it guys? 😉

In exactly two months from today, I will be photographing Lisa & Rodney’s wedding – and I don’t think I could be any more excited!!

When Sabrina told me she was getting married on a boat in Toronto, I immediately thought of this song. (Warning: Explicit lyrics… probably best not to listen to this when there are kids around 😉 )

Anyway, a couple days ago I went out to Port Stanley (which is about 45 minutes south of London) to do Sabrina and Mason’s engagement photos! SO. MUCH. FUN!!! Sabrina and Mason are hilarious and so much fun to hang out with!! We got some awesome shots (and some really funny ones too, which I may post later 😉 ).

I can’t wait to photograph their wedding next month – on a BOAT!

Kailyn

My oh my, I have quite a few blog posts to catch up on!

Funny how, and I’m sure my fellow photographers will agree, if you don’t blog for awhile people think you aren’t busy, or you aren’t working. The truth is, when I blog less, it’s because I’m TOO busy to get to it!!

Anyways!

A month ago (see, I said I had some blog posts to catch up on!), I photographed a family who came to me through The Tiny Light Foundation.

Kailyn is 2.5 years old, and just over a year ago she was diagnosed with a rare chromosome disorder called Isodecentric 15q.

The good news is that this coming August, Kailyn is going to be a big sister!! So it was a great time to get some family photos done before they become a family of 4!

After they received all their images, Kailyn’s mom Renee sent me this wonderful email:

Hi Jennifer,

We just got the disc today and we couldn’t be more thrilled. The photos are absolutely wonderful and I just can’t thank you enough!!

Renee

I’m so happy I could help out this wonderful family!

Today I was at the Glendon campus of York University in Toronto, doing engagement pictures for Carina and Jamie! Their two young (and ADORABLE!) daughters came along as well, along with Carina’s super-awesome and helpful mom! (Love meeting the family before the wedding day!)

I can’t wait to photograph Carina and Jamie’s wedding this July!

Christie

Two years ago, I photographed Chloe at her home in Toronto, when she was about 4 or 5 months old. Well the weekend before last (I know, I have a few blog posts to catch up on), I photographed Chloe’s baby sister Christie, who at the time was about 4.5 months old. (5 months old today!)

Not only is Christie SUPER cute, but she has to be one of the smiley-est babies I have ever photographed!
